In a previous post, Katin wondered if an iPhone would simplify her life.  I’ve had an iPhone for almost a year now & have mixed feelings.

Ways the iPhone has simplified my life:

  1. Taking & sharing photos is really easy (especially when I don’t need 8+ megapixel resolution).
  2. Web look-ups on the go (directions, movie listings, weather maps 25 miles into a bike ride).
  3. One device in my car that handles both music playback & hands-free phone usage (including automatically turning down music during the call).
  4. Useful applications like Zenbe that I share with my wife: shopping lists, to-dos and other reminders.

Ways the iPhone has NOT simplified my life:

  1. I have to log into a website to view photo or video messages.
  2. I’m probably in the minority here, but I’m all thumbs when it comes to using the touch-screen keypad.
  3. Making a call is not very straightforward.  I need to: Unlock the iPhone, Select Phone, Navigate to Favorites/Recents/Contacts/Keypad/Voicemail, then Find & Select a contact.  It’s 2-3 more steps than my old “open it up and press a button” phone.

Has the iPhone simplified my life? Yes, and No.
